Michael Dane “Butch” King, age 62, of Swannanoa passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 after battling Stage 4 lung cancer.
He attended Erwin High and joined the US Air Force in 1977 after being a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. Mike worked many years in the sign business and was a neon craftsman. He was a life long motorcycle enthusiast and mechanic. He loved his 2 stroke Yamaha street bikes, watching MOTO GP and Valentino Rossi. He worked for several local motorcycle shops and parts depts. He recently worked a couple years along side his older brother doing computer repair. Mike was a member of and dedicated 14 years working with area youth through the Upward Basketball Program at the First Baptist Church in Swannanoa.
He was the son of the late Christine Black Boyd and Herbert King. He was preceded by his daughter, Alexandra; brother, Ron King; sister, Martha Elizabeth King.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris; daughter, Michelle(Travis) Burleson; grandson, Alexander; brother, Doug(Caye) King; his stepfather, Gilmer Boyd; his nephew and nieces; a long list of riding buddies, brothers in Christ and close friends.
A special thanks to his cousin Jeff Fowler who helped tremendously during his illness. The family will receive friends at 4:00 pm with the service being held at 5:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Swannanoa on Monday, August 8, 2022.
