Joanne Sawin Gordon (Joey), 73, of Asheville, NC passed away Monday, August 5, 2019. She was born in Farmington, Maine to Ace and Alma Sawin.

Joanne loved to sew things for the family and cook with the grandkids. She was a kind, caring woman who everyone liked talking to. She loved her dog Maddie. She loved to hike and picnic in the mountains. She loved to travel across the country and stay in bed and breakfasts in small towns. She spent 8 years volunteering in Rainbow Girls helping young girls develop into adulthood. Joanne love antiquing, reading about history, listening to a wide variety of music, but the thing that gave her the most pleasure was spending time with her family and friends.

Joey is survived by her partner of 31 years, Scott Hessing; daughter, Allison Strosnider; granddaughters, Audrey and Alexis Strosnider.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Western Carolina Mortuary Service 1373 Sweeten Creek Rd. Asheville, NC.
