David Deland Williams, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
He was born on January 13, 1945 in Asheville, NC . His parents were the late David Deland Williams and Genevieve Payne Williams. He was also preceded in death by a son, Omar Williams, a sister, Annette Williams Smith Conwell, a brother, Walter Lee Williams (Vickie), all of Asheville, NC.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Class of 1963 at Stephens-Lee High School where he excelled as a member of the football and baseball teams, respectively. He was an entrepreneur for most of his working life where he owned several nightclubs and private clubs on “ the Block” and on Patton Avenue in Downtown Asheville. He also owned Williams Commercial Facility Maintenance in which he held the maintenance contracts for over thirty commercial buildings on Patton Avenue, Wall St. and in the Commercial Business District of Downtown Asheville.
He retired from Trinity Episcopal Church to pursue his hobbies as an avid outdoorsman in fishing, long rifle hunting, gun and pocket- knife collecting, and taking his friends on his power boat on overnight fishing excursions all over WNC.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, DeRothea “ Dee” Goodman-Williams, a daughter, DeLores Williams of Asheville, three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held at Western Carolina Mortuary Service on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. James A. Grant, Pastor of Worldwide Missionary Baptist Tabernacle presiding. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories of Mr. Williams with all those who are gathered.
COVID 19 precautions will be observed with required face coverings and social distancing of at least 6 feet for non-household members, and the maximum occupancy of the facilities for the service is restricted to 50 people.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Mr. Williams at a later date which will be announced.
