Charles “Tate” Morgan began his earthly journey on June 10, 1948 in Asheville, NC. He was born to the late Sarah Holloway Morgan and Clarence Morgan, Sr.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the age of 77, he answered Gods call while surrounded by several family members, at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center, Asheville. Upon taking his last breath, he held his beloved wife’s hand and peacefully entered into eternal rest.
Charles received his formal education within the Asheville City School District. He was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist church where he was a faithful member even throughout his illness. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Worshipful Master of Friendship Lodge No. 18, Worthy Patron of the Daughters of Zion No. 2 Order of Eastern Star and St. John’s Chapter of Royal Arch (SHOJ), and Joshua for Friendship No. 9 Heroines of Jericho. He worked at various jobs including Craggy Correctional Center, Alcoholic Beverage Control, and as a concrete finisher throughout North and South Carolina.
Tate met the love of his life, Betty McIntosh Morgan and were married August 26, 1976. Their love spread throughout their children. He was an avid pool player, loved to joke and was known and loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sarah Morgan; daughter, Cassondra (San) Morgan Dawkins; sisters, Alberta Weston, Betty Boyd, Lessie Bell Williams, Ethel Dunbar, Annie Mae Morgan, and Rosada Garrett; brother, Clarence Morgan, Jr.; brother-in-law, James McIntosh, Sr.; two grandchildren, Kavon Griffin and Charles Keith Morgan, Jr.
His phenomenal life was left to be cherished by his affectionate wife of 49 years, Betty McIntosh Morgan; daughters, Toni Morgan- Aiken (Lee), Keva Morgan (Ricky), Nisie Finley (Omar, Sr), Charles K. Morgan (Octavia), Marcellous Boston (Alice), Charlene Morgan, and Kevin Morgan (Keeva); sisters, Barbara Hunter, and Claudia Tucker (Charlie); sisters- in-law, Marche’ Morgan and Patricia Timpson (Willie); brothers-in- law, Larry McIntosh and Jerry McIntosh; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In his later years, Charles was a quiet man who loved to be at home. He was a great cook who continued to do so when his health allowed. He will forever be known as a champion to his family. Throughout his illness he never once complained. His strength and tenacity remained strong until his last day on this earth.
He could quote scripture off the top of his head whenever asked. In his last days God spoke to him and he said, “I AM THAT I AM”. He called on His name by saying “Oh Lord My God”. He wanted to make sure we all received the “gold” he was seeing. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we take comfort in knowing our husband, father, brother, family member and friend now rests in eternal peace.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
