Catherine "Susie" Marie Wilson, M.D. Obituary

Dr. Catherine Marie "Susie" Wilson, a revered and cherished physician, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025. Born to the late Edward Wilson, Sr. and Lotty Wilson, Catherine's life was a testament to her dedication, compassion, and love for others.

Catherine's academic journey began at Laurel Elementary School and continued through Laurel High School in Laurel, MD. She graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy in 1955, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Columbia Union College in 1959, and achieved her Doctorate of Medicine from Loma Linda University in 1963. Her professional career flourished in Asheville, NC, where she was a Senior Partner at the Asheville Women's Medical Center from 1968 to 1997. As a leader in her field, Catherine served as Chairperson of the St. Joseph's Hospital Department of Gynecology in 1992 and as Chief of Women's Health at the Asheville VA Medical Center from 1997 to 2002.

Her professional achievements were numerous, including a medical internship at Washington Sanitarium & Hospital, an OBGYN Residency at the University of Maryland, and being a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Catherine was also Board Certified in 1968, a Gold Life Member of the Loma Linda University School of Medicine Alumni Association, and a recipient of the St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Staff Leadership Award in 1992. Her commitment to medicine and her patients was unwavering.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Catherine was a beloved friend, sister, aunt, and daughter. Her skills as a medical diagnostician, clinician, and surgeon were matched by her kindness and generosity towards friends, family, and her church community. As a member of the Asheville North Seventh-day Adventist Church, her faith was a cornerstone of her life.

Catherine's passions extended beyond her medical career. She was a gifted musician and audiophile, an avid art collector, and a world traveler. Her love for sports cars and her adventurous spirit were evident in her performing double backflips from the high dive and executing a mean basketball hook-shot. She was a lifelong learner, particularly in the field of medicine, and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles Wilson, Sr., Edward Wilson, Jr., David Wilson; nephews Charles Wilson, Jr. and Lawrence Wilson. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her surviving family members: nephew Kenneth Wilson (Arlene) of Candler, NC; nieces Suzan Wilson of High Point, NC, Rosalie von Henner (Chancellor) of Candler, NC; grand-nephews Timothy Wilson (Konnely) of Niles, MI, Stefan von Henner (Elise) of Eau Clair, MI, Austin von Henner (Julie) of Mills River, NC; and grand-nieces Lori Reaney (Kyler) of Silverton, OR, Dimitria Prindle of Charleston, WV, Elizabeth Wilson of Candler, NC. She is also remembered by her great-grand-nephews Dylan Wilson of Niles, MI, Thayne von Henner of Eau Clair, MI; and great-grand-nieces Zaelee von Henner, Kielynn von Henner of Eau Clair, MI, Maria Prindle of High Point, NC, along with the expected baby girl Reaney of Silverton, OR, and expected baby von Henner of Eau Clair, MI.

Her family will forever cherish her memory and the profound impact she made in their lives.
