Glynn Lookabill Obituary

Glynn Ray Lookabill, 66, of Asheville passed away peacefully March 14, 2024, at Elizabeth House - Four Seasons Hospice in Flat Rock. Glynn was born February 4, 1958, in Staton Island, NY to Charles Ray and Mary Ballard Lookabill. He is preceded in death by his parents. 

Glynn is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pamela Porter Lookabill. He is also survived by a sister, Charlene (George) Powers of Easley, SC; nieces, Darla (Eddie) Morris of Indian Trail, NC, Stacy (Todd) Hanna of Greenville, SC and Keri Powers of Kailua, HI. He is also survived by great nephews, Gunnar and Gavin Morris of Indian Trail NC, Cayden Powers of Greenville, SC, Liam and Owen Pye of Kailua, HI along with honorary goddaughters, Megan Gulledge and Fionna Walsh.  He is also survived by the countless number of friends he made every place he went. 

Glynn was a 1976 graduate of Enka High School. He was a 1980 graduate of Pfeiffer University with a degree in Health and Physical Education/Fitness. He received a Master’s in Education from Western Carolina University.

Glynn taught high school for 14 years, then taught at several colleges as well as in the community college system. He worked as a Medic for Mecklenburg County EMS and other agencies. He was a Certified Athletic Trainer and a NC licensed Athletic Trainer. He sold EMS equipment for a number of years. In 1994, Glynn opened PreMed Training Group, training medical personnel all over the country. Even during his time in the hospital, he was encouraging the staff to further their education. He said he was going to be an educator to the very end.

Glynn was an advocate for the International Trauma Life Support Program. He represented NC annually as a delegate and served as a judge at the Paramedic competitions. He was looking forward to this year’s convention in Canada. 

He was also active with the American Heart Association. 

He was an avid supporter of FurEver Friends Animal Rescue in Asheville. He volunteered there daily and made numerous northern rescue runs that benefitted many local rescues and saved many cats. Glynn could often be found with Pam trapping feral cats for TNR. He believed all pets should be spayed and neutered and was passionate about the topic.

Public services will be held at the chapel of Western Carolina Mortuary, 1373 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville Saturday, March 23 at 2:00pm. The family will have a private interment. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to-
