Alden Roland Obituary

Mr. Alden Roland was born in Burnsville, NC on January 14, 1953 to the late Mr. Frank and Mrs. Oredia Maurie Young Roland. After the death of his biological father at the age of six, Oredia moved the family to Asheville, NC where she met Mr. Thomas A. Hutchison and he took on the role of “Dad” to her six children.

Alden worked in the hospitality industry all his life as a Head Maitre’d. From the City Club of Asheville, Grove Park Inn, Asheville Country Club, Biltmore Country Club all in Asheville, NC to several country clubs in Los Angeles, CA, St. Louis, MO and Atlanta, GA, Alden could take orders for up to 25 people with no pen or pad and then serve it all to the right guests. This gained him popularity and the status of “showstopper” in the dining room and hospitality industry.

Alden was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Frank and Mrs. Oredia Young Roland and Mr. Thomas Hutchison (Mary Frances); maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Belcher Griffith, Sr. and Mr. Geter Young; paternal grandparents, Daddy Will and Mama Hattie Flack Roland and Daddy Ed and Mama Ophelia Hutchison; stepson, Ronald Jonathan Johnson; sisters, Drucilla Young Roland, Frances Roland Hall (Arthur Lee), Hattie Roland Cantrell, Rosalyn Roland; brothers, Gregory Irby and Don Barnett; brother-in-law, Samuel T. Hall.

Left to cherish his memory are children, Al Keith Durham of Asheville, NC, Gregory M. Roland (Genny) of Grand Prairie, TX, Alden Maurice Johnson (Tiquana) of Charlotte, NC, Stacey Altonia Shaw Bowman of Arden, NC, Tracey Geavona Mosely and Jva Maukita Alonn Roland of Charlotte, NC; his last biological sibling, Mrs. Regina Roland Hall of Asheville, NC; bonus siblings, Alice Marie Hutchison-Cambridge (Sam) of Atlanta, GA, Elder Thomas (Brad) Wynn (Romelia) of Asheville, NC, Darryl Stallings (Felicia) of Greensboro, NC, Brendon Crite of Brevard, NC, Maceo Boston (Timika) of Greensboro, NC, Vincent Logan (Wendy) of Spartanburg, SC and Shawn Smith of Asheville, NC; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two special sister/nieces, Anita Brooks and Dorothy Laverne Waterson (Doug); special nephew, Bryant K. Roland; one remaining favorite aunt, Mrs. Violet Henson of Burnsville, NC; a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
